Pet Wellness Exams & Preventive Care

Regular veterinary wellness examinations are essential to safeguarding the health of your dog or cat and ensuring your pet lives the happiest and healthiest life possible. Prevention of illness and early detection of disease will not only extend your pet’s life and ensure your pet’s comfort, but it will also save you money on costly medical treatments.

What Is Veterinary Wellness and Preventive Care?

Through a combination of regular examinations, vaccine administration, parasite control, and screening tests, wellness and preventive care encompass disease prevention and early diagnosis of illness so as to maintain an optimal level of health for your pet.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Wellness Exam

After collecting and documenting a detailed history, we perform a comprehensive physical examination, which entails evaluating your pet from whiskers to tail. We measure and record your pet’s vital signs and weight so as to establish a baseline that can be referenced and compared at future visits. Veterinary checkups also include the following services:

Health Screening

Depending on your pet’s age, species, breed, condition, and lifestyle, we may recommend health screenings and profiles, such as blood, urine, and/or fecal testing. Health screening is advised for pets who are considered at-risk for developing certain conditions and illnesses. Performing regular and preemptive screenings facilitates early detection and diagnosis of health problems resulting in uncomplicated management and treatment.

Vaccinations

Core vaccines are vaccines that are considered essential for every pet to receive since they protect against the most contagious and serious diseases. The decision to give non-core vaccines is based on the individual pet’s lifestyle and exposure. Vaccine schedules and durations depend on the immunization itself, your pet’s age, and your pet’s history. While vaccination and booster schedules can coincide with exam due dates, this does not always occur. Even if vaccines are current, we advise annual visits for adult pets and biannual visits for senior/geriatric pets.

Parasite Control and Prevention

We will evaluate for internal and external parasites and discuss appropriate control, treatment, and preventive measures.

Nutritional and Behavior Counseling

Our veterinarians partner with you to ensure your pet is offered a proper diet in the appropriate quantity. Obtaining and maintaining an ideal body condition score/weight are essential to your pet’s overall health and longevity. Additionally, we provide training advice and address behavioral issues. Assessment of your pet’s environment and routine as part of a house call visit facilitates our ability to counsel on nutritional and behavioral matters.
